Product fail: L'oreal infallable Total Cover foundation

After seeing so many reviews and instagram videos on this foundation, I decided to pick this up and give it a go. I am a huge fan of the Estee Lauder Double wear and have been through a couple of bottles of it so the potential for a cheaper alternative was just too good to ignore. For starters, I admit that I do not need such a high coverage foundation, but I do look for the longevity of a foundation as I work long hours without having the opportunity to touch up.

I like how the tube is so sleek in packaging and perfect for travelling with. This has a mousse texture and dries down very quickly so you need to blend instantly after applying. I have tried using my fingers, beauty blender and a foundation brush and I feel that the best way of applying this is with a damp beauty blender. I feel that this clings onto my dry patches unfortunately but although the overall coverage is amazing and the finish is matte, it really does seems pretty lightweight on the face. I did not use any setting powder on top the first time I used it as it didn't seem like I needed to due to the matte finish, but I was so wrong after a few hours and it started to break down on my face and I was horrified as it was so difficult to retouch after a few hours.

So I decided to try next day with a setting powder and setting spray. I found that throughout my 13 hour shift, I was checking up on my face but I wasn't pleased with what I saw. The makeup was cakey and started to patch on certain areas of my face. When I tried to re-apply powder on top to get rid of the shine and even it out, it just made it look far worse. I had high hopes of this foundation and I really adored the initial flawless finish that it gave, but maybe it wasn't suitable for my skintype. I have now gravitated back to my double wear for the time being until I can find a better alternative.

What is your holy grail foundation?

MY TOP BEAUTY DISCOVERIES IN 2016

With 2016 over, I thought I would do a round up of all the products that I have been delighted to have discovered and have used constantly in the past year. These are the most reached for beauty products for the whole year and I'm sure it would continue this year before I discover newer and better products.

1. Hourglass The Edit Palette
This is by far the most beautifl palette I own in my makeup collection. These powders are such high quality and pigmented. Hourglass is an expensive brand and it was never a brand that I considered purchasing from until I saw this particular palette which i was difficult to resist indeed. The half highlighters and half blushers caught my attention and the packaging is gorgeous. The powder is pigmented yet finely milled making application a dream and achieving a flawless finish.

2. Caudalie Beauty Elixer
This is such a cult product in the beauty world so the curiosity made me purchase this and now I am on my 3rd bottle. This spray has a nice refreshing citrus yet herbal scent which instantly awakens the senses and refreshes dull makeup. I like using this just before makeup application and also throughout the day for a quick pick me up especially after the gym. Always have a travel sized in my handbag as its so handy to use whenever and wherever.

3. L'oreal Infallible Setting Mist
If you guys following my blog, you would have read about the only 2 makeup setting sprays I use right now and this is one of them. This product works wonders for me and I am so glad that I discovered it to the point that I have stopped using my Urban decay allnighter setting spray. I work long hours as a nurse and at the end of my 13 hour shift, my makeup still looks great and my makeup still in place. I have recommended this to my nurse friend who also raves about this product. Such a good product for an affordable price.

4. Chanel Chance Perfume
I am a huge fan of Chanel perfumes and I already own the Eau fraiche version of this which is the green bottle. I did not intend on purchasing anymore fragrance for a while as my collection is a bit over saturated now but this one I just couldn't walk away from. This has a lovely delicate floral scent that is very long lasting. This feminine yet non overpowering scent is great to wear during the day time and I've had many compliments when I wear this perfume.

5. Lancome energie de vie moisturiser
I  referred to this moisturiser as my holy grail moisturiser summer time last year and I totally still stand by it. You can have a read of my review here if you have missed it. This is really lightweight yet provides just enough moisture to my complexion without leaving it feeling greasy. I like using this in the morning. With its refreshing scent and light texture, it not only wakes me up ready for the day but it makes a lovely base for my makeup application. Definitley recommend this moisturiser and I am eager to try the rest from the range.

6. Kiko nail polish
I've always been obsessed with nail polishes especially the inexpensive ones that gives better results than the big branded ones. I used to love the BarryM nail paints but they are forgotten now ever since I've discovered Kiko nail polishes. Their shade range is impressive and I adore their formulation and wear. This shade 338 has been my favourite for quite a while in the 2016 and I have repurchased this shade already.

7. Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation
I can't believe I didn't try out this foundation sooner. This is definitley the most full coverage/long lasting foundation I have ever tried. Although this has a tendancy to look quite heavy and cakey, I find that a dewy makeup mist just solves that problem. This foundation gives me the most compliments from my patients saying how perfect my skin looked. A must have if you are looking for a flawless coverage stay all day foundation.

8. NYX soft matte lip cream
At first I lusted over these as they were not available in the UK but when they finally came here after a long wait, I managed to pick up some shades. These are affordable and I absolutely love the formulation of them. They are a soft cream formula which literally just melts into the lips and stays put. My favourite shades so far are London and Rome but I will sooon purchase some more.

9. Becca Highlighter Opal
I got this highlighter as one of the products in my cultbeauty box (read what other products I got too here) I was delighted when I opened it and saw the colour. This is a warm toned highligher that has finely milled particles which gives a sunkissed highlight look. The formula is buttery and soft and I personally like to use a fan brush to apply to the high points of my face. Looking into purchasing the Champagne pop shade soon.

10. Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat Concealer
For all the late night shifts I do in my job and sleepless nights, I find that this product has definitley saved the day. This radiance boosting concealer I use under my eyes to brighten up any darkness around the area. The light texture means blending is effortless and gentle on the eyes. Usually my foundation is sufficient in covering my dark circles but I find that this product helps reflect the light underneath to reduce the appearance of the eyebags. A quick pen for a fast touchup to look much more awake

11. Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette
Last but not least, my favourite eyeshadow palette that I have purchased last year. This beauty I knew I had to add to my collection. I am a big fan of warm toned colours and this is just what the palette offers me. The shades included are so pretty and I love the orange/burgandy shades that works great as transition colours and warms up any eye look. (Read the full review here)

THE ONLY SETTING SPRAYS I NEED

Beeing an avid user of makeup setting sprays over the past years, I think I can confidently say that I have found the perfect duo that I will ever need in my makeup kit. Being a combination oily skin girl can make it difficult finding the perfect finish foundation which does the oil control but compromises on the glow but these are the answers to my problems and totally changed my life. I have given up my favourite MAC fix+ and also my Urban decay allnighter after discovering these which are also a more affordable option.

CURRENT SKINCARE PRODUCTS | JUNE 2015

Spring time means that my skin is not as dehydrated as in winter so only a light moisturiser is sufficient for my combination-oily skin. I always like changing up my skincare routine across the different seasons because I feel that skin tends to get use to the product and they eventually stop working as well as initially. The past few months, I have newly purchase the Lancome Genefique and the L'occitane immortelle serum.

LANCOME TONIQUE DOUCEUR

My toner that I have been using back to back for the past couple of years. I love how gentle it is and the scent is very soothing. My skin is very sensitive so this is perfect for my skin and definitley makes it much more smoother and softer after cleansing. Although Lancome skincare usually is quite expensive, this toner is worth it as you get your moneys worth because a large size will last you for a while as a little goes a long way. I actually love the colour of this too and I don't think that I can fault this toner at all.

LANCOME ADVANCED GENIFIQUE YOUTH CONCENTRATE

Its nice to prevent fine lines and wrinkles from a young age, therefore I decided to invest in this youth concentrate. The concept of this product is that you are supposed to use this prior to the application of any serums and it would boost the effectiveness of the serum because the product will be able to penetrate the skin further. I have been using this for the past month during both day and night time. It makes my skin smoother in texture and it makes a great makeup base also. Can't say how well it works with regards to fine lines but I can tell the difference that it has made to my skin.

L'OCCITANE IMMORTELLE PRECIOUS SERUM

After finishing my Estee Lauder advance night repair, the inner beauty junkie wanted to try out an alternative serum. Although I still dearly love my advance night repair I felt that there must be something else out there for me. I picked this L'occitane serum because I like how the brand uses natural products and it intrigued me that this serum is produced using flower extracts. This smells absolutely amazing and refreshing, although some people may not be too fond of scented products as it is quite strong in my opinion. Nearly finished this bottle but I am not too impressed with it as i didn't feel that it did much for my skin and it wasn't as hydrating as it promised. Due to the fact that my skin is quite sensitive, I found that it stings a tiny bit sometimes.

THE BODY SHOP VITAMIN E AQUA BOOST SORBET

My combination oily skin doesn't require much moisture during the spring time and overdoing on the moisturiser front makes me look like a horrible greasball. This product delivers the perfect amount of moisture and it feels very refreshing and comfortable to use. A non greasy formulation and a sorbet lightweight texture as promised makes this perfect for applying at night time and during the day underneath foundation. I've already featured this product in a product rave post. You can read more here if you are interested.

L'OREAL REVITALIFT LASER RENEW EYECREAM

I adore the shape of the applicator because not only can it nicely distribute the product around the eye area, but it can work as a massaging tool to drain the lymphatic fluid around especially in the morning. The applicator has a cooling sensation too which makes it therapeutic to use and I love it in the morning to give me that extra boost to make me feel more awake. I like to store this product in the fridge because I find that the product works better when it is cold and can help decrease the puffiness of my eyes. Not sure if it helps correct lines and wrinkles as I do not have any yet (touch wood) but I can confirm that it makes the skin feel smooth and makes makeup application a dream.

VALENTINES DAY MAKEUP

A day time natural makeup look with a pop of colour to represent the essence of valentines. I think this is a great option for a first date as it is clean and natural keeping the skin looking fresh looking and sweet.

FACE

I used a silicone based primer [Maybelline baby skin instant pore eraser] to cover my pores and creating a perfect canvas for my foundation to go on. For foundation, I went for the Rimmel lasting finish as it makes my skin look flawless and adds a hint of randiance without compromising the longevity of it. To add some more definition to the skin, I used a cream based product [NARS multiple in Altai] to contour my face along with [The body Shop honey bronzer] to set the contour colour. To blend out and set all the products, I used [MAC mineralise finish in natural] to finish off.

EYES

I do not actually own any pink or purple eyeshadows in my collection, therefore I ended up using an Urban decay palette which had a pink and purple shade. I used my Shu Uemura Eyelash curlers to curl my lashes and applied my [Lancome hypnose doll eyes waterproof mascara]

LIPS

Back to using my forgotten much loved [Revlon lip butter in Sweet tart] as it is very moisturising and the pink shade is very sweet looking and perfect for valentines day.

What makeup look did you wear for valentines day?
