MY TOP BEAUTY DISCOVERIES IN 2016

With 2016 over, I thought I would do a round up of all the products that I have been delighted to have discovered and have used constantly in the past year. These are the most reached for beauty products for the whole year and I'm sure it would continue this year before I discover newer and better products.

1. Hourglass The Edit Palette
This is by far the most beautifl palette I own in my makeup collection. These powders are such high quality and pigmented. Hourglass is an expensive brand and it was never a brand that I considered purchasing from until I saw this particular palette which i was difficult to resist indeed. The half highlighters and half blushers caught my attention and the packaging is gorgeous. The powder is pigmented yet finely milled making application a dream and achieving a flawless finish.

2. Caudalie Beauty Elixer
This is such a cult product in the beauty world so the curiosity made me purchase this and now I am on my 3rd bottle. This spray has a nice refreshing citrus yet herbal scent which instantly awakens the senses and refreshes dull makeup. I like using this just before makeup application and also throughout the day for a quick pick me up especially after the gym. Always have a travel sized in my handbag as its so handy to use whenever and wherever.

3. L'oreal Infallible Setting Mist
If you guys following my blog, you would have read about the only 2 makeup setting sprays I use right now and this is one of them. This product works wonders for me and I am so glad that I discovered it to the point that I have stopped using my Urban decay allnighter setting spray. I work long hours as a nurse and at the end of my 13 hour shift, my makeup still looks great and my makeup still in place. I have recommended this to my nurse friend who also raves about this product. Such a good product for an affordable price.

4. Chanel Chance Perfume
I am a huge fan of Chanel perfumes and I already own the Eau fraiche version of this which is the green bottle. I did not intend on purchasing anymore fragrance for a while as my collection is a bit over saturated now but this one I just couldn't walk away from. This has a lovely delicate floral scent that is very long lasting. This feminine yet non overpowering scent is great to wear during the day time and I've had many compliments when I wear this perfume.

5. Lancome energie de vie moisturiser
I  referred to this moisturiser as my holy grail moisturiser summer time last year and I totally still stand by it. You can have a read of my review here if you have missed it. This is really lightweight yet provides just enough moisture to my complexion without leaving it feeling greasy. I like using this in the morning. With its refreshing scent and light texture, it not only wakes me up ready for the day but it makes a lovely base for my makeup application. Definitley recommend this moisturiser and I am eager to try the rest from the range.

6. Kiko nail polish
I've always been obsessed with nail polishes especially the inexpensive ones that gives better results than the big branded ones. I used to love the BarryM nail paints but they are forgotten now ever since I've discovered Kiko nail polishes. Their shade range is impressive and I adore their formulation and wear. This shade 338 has been my favourite for quite a while in the 2016 and I have repurchased this shade already.

7. Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation
I can't believe I didn't try out this foundation sooner. This is definitley the most full coverage/long lasting foundation I have ever tried. Although this has a tendancy to look quite heavy and cakey, I find that a dewy makeup mist just solves that problem. This foundation gives me the most compliments from my patients saying how perfect my skin looked. A must have if you are looking for a flawless coverage stay all day foundation.

8. NYX soft matte lip cream
At first I lusted over these as they were not available in the UK but when they finally came here after a long wait, I managed to pick up some shades. These are affordable and I absolutely love the formulation of them. They are a soft cream formula which literally just melts into the lips and stays put. My favourite shades so far are London and Rome but I will sooon purchase some more.

9. Becca Highlighter Opal
I got this highlighter as one of the products in my cultbeauty box (read what other products I got too here) I was delighted when I opened it and saw the colour. This is a warm toned highligher that has finely milled particles which gives a sunkissed highlight look. The formula is buttery and soft and I personally like to use a fan brush to apply to the high points of my face. Looking into purchasing the Champagne pop shade soon.

10. Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat Concealer
For all the late night shifts I do in my job and sleepless nights, I find that this product has definitley saved the day. This radiance boosting concealer I use under my eyes to brighten up any darkness around the area. The light texture means blending is effortless and gentle on the eyes. Usually my foundation is sufficient in covering my dark circles but I find that this product helps reflect the light underneath to reduce the appearance of the eyebags. A quick pen for a fast touchup to look much more awake

11. Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette
Last but not least, my favourite eyeshadow palette that I have purchased last year. This beauty I knew I had to add to my collection. I am a big fan of warm toned colours and this is just what the palette offers me. The shades included are so pretty and I love the orange/burgandy shades that works great as transition colours and warms up any eye look. (Read the full review here)

ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS: MODERN RENAISSANCE PALETTE

I am absolutely in love with this beautiful palette and I did not hesitate to order from Cultbeauty.com. Usually I am more of a neutral taupey eyeshadow kind of girl but I felt that I really wanted to try out warmer/pink tones which is what this palette offers. The 'Venetian red' and 'Realgar' shade really caught my eye and I was excited to use it to create different eye makeup looks.

First of all, the packaging of this is gorgeous with a pretty dusky pink velvet which although is so pretty, I'm sure it will get a bit dirty very quickly just like how my Naked palette did. I loved the shades and I find that they blend together very easily and all the colours just compliment each other beautifully. The brush itself is good quality which I am pleased with as some other brushes that come with palettes do not offer this. The only downside to this palette is that it had alot of fallout which I am quite disappointed about but overall I am still loving this palette and I have been reaching for it most of the time in Autumn/Winter time.

Fortunately, Anastasia Beverly Hills is now available in the UK which means that it so much more easier to get hold of this palette rather than ordering from Cultbeauty or Beautybay; which I did and found that it was usually out of stock resulting me having to wait to order. This palette is just perfect for all makeup lovers who want to try out these unique shades and also would make such a pretty gift!

MY ONGOING REPURCHASES - HAIR

Being a girl with long hair for most of her life, haircare and hair styling has been an important aspect of day to day life. Over the years I have found a bunch of inexpensive products which works best for me and so in this post, I have chosen 5 products that is constantly a part of my routine and I keep repurchasing them continuously especially when Boots does their 3 for 2 offers which is always a perfect opportunity to restock the stash which I'm sure most of you can agree with.

Tresseme Dry Shampoo

The main reason why I love this dry shampoo as opposed to the other brands i've tried is that this comes out clear so that horrible grey cast on the hair is avoided. This particular one if aimed at fine hair which is great for my hair as quite alot of products tend to weigh my hair down making it look more limp and greasy. With a powdery scent, this dry shampoo is very pleasant to use and also a relatively inexpensive product suited for regular use.

John Frieda Blow Dry lotion.

I tend to use this on special occasions as I find that this product gives me crazy amounts of volume. One thing I have learnt is that a little definitely goes a long way as I over sprayed my hair and it turned out to make my hair really greasy and unmanageable. A few spritz of this prior to blow-drying creates voluminous hair perfect for further hair styling or just to go out with a fuller look. My hair is very fine and my main goal is getting as much volume and texture as I can so this is great for me.

Batiste XXL

I recently discovered this product as it has been a while since I've delved back into the brand as I used to hate their white cast they produced on my hair when I used their dry shampoos. However, I use this product not for taking away that extra shine, but rather to add texture into my hair when it comes to styling like the name suggests. Using this give me the texture I want so I am able to add subtle volume into my hair without having to back-comb which damages the hair. sometimes I straighten my hair and the end result can look a bit too neat and tidy therefore using this helps with making the look more casual and effortless.

Charles Worthington Texturising spray

Like the Batiste XXL, I use this for finishing off my hair styling to add extra volume and texure. This product differs as it has more of a hairspray property to it giving the hair a bit more hold and lift. I have heard this being compared with the Oribe texturising shampoo so this product is the cheaper alternative to that. This product is a must have for me and it goes everywhere with me and always in my travel bags as it is simply a product that I feel changes the way my hair looks.

Tresseme Heat Defence Spray

This product has been my staple in my hair styling routine for several years now since I've discovered it. This is great before blow drying protecting my hair from the heat and I can say that it does make a difference to the look and feel of your hair after. I find that if I don't use this I can really tell the difference and my hair doesn't feel as soft. Bargain for how much product you get and one bottle lasts for a long time. A must have for my hair styling routine as I regularly blow dry my hair and use my straighteners on it.

MINI HAUL || MAC & ILLAMASQUA

Its been a little while since I have purchased any makeup from either of these stores so I was intrigued by the new products and managed to pick up a few things that I have been wanting for quite a while especially the cream pigments from Illamasqua. With my paycheck in place I feel that spending a little on myself really isnt a problem so I made these cheeky purchases which I probably do not really need seein the size of my ever growing collection. Here are my first impressions of them so far after a couple of weeks using these.

Illamasqua cream pigment - Androgen

This is such a pretty colour and I cannot help but remember how much I have lusted over this when their cream pigment was launched. This colour is a soft gentle pink which is easy to work with and suits my skintone very well. I like the idea of the versatility of this product because it can be used on the cheeks or on the lips. Upon using it, i find that it looked beautiful on the cheeks and blended very nicely using my fingers but I would have to recommend giving it a miss for the lips as I found that it emphasised the lines on my lips and it wasn't a great look at all.

Illamasqua cream pigment - Hollow

I think I lack in the whole cream contour department in my makeup collection so I find this to be perfect to buy. The colour is a nice cool toned brown which makes it ideal for contouring purposes. I like to use this with the Illamasqua blush up brush to apply and blend out. I did find that it was quite hard to use and it was quite difficult to blend because the product wasn't as creamy as I would like it to be. Overall I really like this product because of the cool toned nature of it as it is difficult to find a contour shade thats not too warm.

MAC Fix +

This was actually a repurchase as I have forgotten how much I love the MAC fix + ages ago but I have been trying out other setting sprays. I still like the Urban decay all nighter spray but I feel that this one is a bit more moisurising and gives me that extra glow that I want after applying my foundation. Not much to say about this product apart from the fact that it works really well as a moisturising base and great for setting makeup.

MAC lip pencil - Dervish

Since MAC soar is out of stock everywhere I have been, I opted for a similar kind of shade tone which is Dervish. I think I am a little bit more in love with lipliner compared with earlier on in the year. I love how a lipliner can instantly make your lip shade appear more even and gives that clean precise finish. This Dervish lipliner is lovely to use and applies onto the lips like a dream. The shade makes me look more mature and I tend to use this during evening times. A little bit drying which is expected from a lipliner, therefore I sometimes use a balm on top. (On my lips in the photo above)

MAC lipstick - Brave

Another lipstick that I have been lusting over for a while. Going along with the lipliner, I found that this shade went perfectly with Dervish. This is a satin finish which makes it lovely to wear on the lips and not too drying. This shade is gorgeous and sophisticated yet easy to wear and compliments alot of makeup looks. Most of my lipsticks are pink and nude shades so it was nice to try out a lipstick that has more of a brown tone to it and I was pleasantly suprised by how much I liked it. BRING ON THE SUNSHINE

Recently we have seen a bit of sun peeking through despite still being quite chilly at times; therefore I feel that I ought to grab a few products to welcome the summer sunshine and get into the spirit. These products I always go for to help achieve that effortless glowy sunkissed skin and that bright pop of colour to the lips.

BOURJOIS CC CREAM

Apart from mineral foundation which is my most grabbed product during the summer, I like using this CC cream at times to give me that extra dewy finish and giving me that extra bit of SPF 15 on top of my usual skincare. This is a light to medium coverage and feels so lightweight on the skin which makes it ideal for summer time where we tend to perspire a little bit more. A full review can be found here if you are interested.

BENEFIT CHA CHA TINT

For that healthy sunkissed look, I like the use this to give me that flushed from within look. This lightweight watery formula gives the most natural finish and I find that used in conjuction with a cream highlight gives the perfect radiance for the summer. However, with this product you have to work quite quickly as it does dry very easily because of its formulation - I recommend using your fingers to dab on the product rather than applying it straight from the brush. You can also use this as a stain on the lips which is an extra bonus and one of my personal faves to wear during the summer as its so long lasting and waterproof.

BURBERRY FRESH GLOW NO.1

I love the versatility of this product as I find that there are multiple uses of it. Firstly, if my skin is looking a bit dull, I mix a bit of this with my foundation to provide me with a bit of extra glow. I also use this as a highlighter when I have applied my base. There is subtle shimmer in this which is great because it doesn't make your make up look too heavy or over the top. Just enough to add a hint of glimmer on your skin for that healthy glow.

MARC JACOBS DAISY EAU SO FRESH

Perfect daytime scent for the summer and I'm sure those of you who have smelt this will agree with me that this is this scent is made for the summer months. Refreshing and delicate, I find that this long lasting perfume can be worn effortlessly and great for all occasions. This is a little bit different from the original Daisy which I am also a big fan of but I find that this one is a little bit more gentle and powdery as opposed to than floral.

REVLON MOISTURE STAIN - 010 LA EXCLUSIVE

Not really a big fan of dark or matte lip colours as the cold seasons are all in the past. I like to lean towards the easy to wear balmy - glossy type lip products. Revlon has impressed me when they first launched these moisture stain and I have been loving them. So easy to apply and comfortable to wear therefore I always grab this to finish off my look during the summer. The way that it doesn't overly stain my lips does it for me as it only stains a little bit because of the selection of colours own. Definitly moisturising on the lips which is great because it prevents lips from being dry and flakey. Full review and a couple of swatches can be found here if you are interested.

(I was lucky enough to visit Rome for several days with my boyfriend so upcoming post soon)
