MY TOP BEAUTY DISCOVERIES IN 2016

With 2016 over, I thought I would do a round up of all the products that I have been delighted to have discovered and have used constantly in the past year. These are the most reached for beauty products for the whole year and I'm sure it would continue this year before I discover newer and better products.

1. Hourglass The Edit Palette
This is by far the most beautifl palette I own in my makeup collection. These powders are such high quality and pigmented. Hourglass is an expensive brand and it was never a brand that I considered purchasing from until I saw this particular palette which i was difficult to resist indeed. The half highlighters and half blushers caught my attention and the packaging is gorgeous. The powder is pigmented yet finely milled making application a dream and achieving a flawless finish.

2. Caudalie Beauty Elixer
This is such a cult product in the beauty world so the curiosity made me purchase this and now I am on my 3rd bottle. This spray has a nice refreshing citrus yet herbal scent which instantly awakens the senses and refreshes dull makeup. I like using this just before makeup application and also throughout the day for a quick pick me up especially after the gym. Always have a travel sized in my handbag as its so handy to use whenever and wherever.

3. L'oreal Infallible Setting Mist
If you guys following my blog, you would have read about the only 2 makeup setting sprays I use right now and this is one of them. This product works wonders for me and I am so glad that I discovered it to the point that I have stopped using my Urban decay allnighter setting spray. I work long hours as a nurse and at the end of my 13 hour shift, my makeup still looks great and my makeup still in place. I have recommended this to my nurse friend who also raves about this product. Such a good product for an affordable price.

4. Chanel Chance Perfume
I am a huge fan of Chanel perfumes and I already own the Eau fraiche version of this which is the green bottle. I did not intend on purchasing anymore fragrance for a while as my collection is a bit over saturated now but this one I just couldn't walk away from. This has a lovely delicate floral scent that is very long lasting. This feminine yet non overpowering scent is great to wear during the day time and I've had many compliments when I wear this perfume.

5. Lancome energie de vie moisturiser
I  referred to this moisturiser as my holy grail moisturiser summer time last year and I totally still stand by it. You can have a read of my review here if you have missed it. This is really lightweight yet provides just enough moisture to my complexion without leaving it feeling greasy. I like using this in the morning. With its refreshing scent and light texture, it not only wakes me up ready for the day but it makes a lovely base for my makeup application. Definitley recommend this moisturiser and I am eager to try the rest from the range.

6. Kiko nail polish
I've always been obsessed with nail polishes especially the inexpensive ones that gives better results than the big branded ones. I used to love the BarryM nail paints but they are forgotten now ever since I've discovered Kiko nail polishes. Their shade range is impressive and I adore their formulation and wear. This shade 338 has been my favourite for quite a while in the 2016 and I have repurchased this shade already.

7. Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation
I can't believe I didn't try out this foundation sooner. This is definitley the most full coverage/long lasting foundation I have ever tried. Although this has a tendancy to look quite heavy and cakey, I find that a dewy makeup mist just solves that problem. This foundation gives me the most compliments from my patients saying how perfect my skin looked. A must have if you are looking for a flawless coverage stay all day foundation.

8. NYX soft matte lip cream
At first I lusted over these as they were not available in the UK but when they finally came here after a long wait, I managed to pick up some shades. These are affordable and I absolutely love the formulation of them. They are a soft cream formula which literally just melts into the lips and stays put. My favourite shades so far are London and Rome but I will sooon purchase some more.

9. Becca Highlighter Opal
I got this highlighter as one of the products in my cultbeauty box (read what other products I got too here) I was delighted when I opened it and saw the colour. This is a warm toned highligher that has finely milled particles which gives a sunkissed highlight look. The formula is buttery and soft and I personally like to use a fan brush to apply to the high points of my face. Looking into purchasing the Champagne pop shade soon.

10. Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat Concealer
For all the late night shifts I do in my job and sleepless nights, I find that this product has definitley saved the day. This radiance boosting concealer I use under my eyes to brighten up any darkness around the area. The light texture means blending is effortless and gentle on the eyes. Usually my foundation is sufficient in covering my dark circles but I find that this product helps reflect the light underneath to reduce the appearance of the eyebags. A quick pen for a fast touchup to look much more awake

11. Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette
Last but not least, my favourite eyeshadow palette that I have purchased last year. This beauty I knew I had to add to my collection. I am a big fan of warm toned colours and this is just what the palette offers me. The shades included are so pretty and I love the orange/burgandy shades that works great as transition colours and warms up any eye look. (Read the full review here)

MY 13 HOUR SHIFT ESSENTIALS

Working as a nurse means that it is vital for me to find products that are long lasting throughout my tedious and somewhat draining shift without having to touch up. I find that these products have worked well for me and helped me look half decent after the long shift.

MINI JANUARY HAUL + FIRST IMPRESSIONS

ESTEE LAUDER - Modern muse Eau de parfum

I am about to start on my new job next month and I thought what better way to start it off by investing in a more grown up mature scent. This scent caught my attention around half a year ago when I smelt this within a shopping centre and I haven't forgotten about it since. I really like this sophisticated scent and it is very different from my usual fruity and flowery scents that is already in my collection.

Clinique Bottom lash mascara

I have been intrigued by this little mascara for ages and never understood the hype because I never gave in to the hype. Having tried the big eyes mascara by Maybelline with the smaller brush for the lower lashes, I found that a smaller brush does mean easier application and grabs onto the lashes. First time using this mascara was quite frustrating to be honest because it is such a small brush. Although it took a longer time to apply, the results definitley showed as my lower lashes appeared longer compared with when I use a normal mascara. Removal was a little bit messy though because it comes off in little tubes and bits which i'm not really used to and defintley unexpected.

Louise young LY34 brush

Blogger fueled purchase. This foundation brush is a dome shaped which is nothing like any of the other brushes that I own in my collection. I do love using my real techniques buffing brush but this one is a little bit larger and flexible in comparison. For the price, this is really soft and good quality. I find that applying liquid/cream foundations with this brush made the process much more quicker and it blends the foundation in much more seamlessly compared with the buffing brushes. The only downside to this brush is that it is a little bit bulky and long in length so it is a mission to fit into my makeup bag when I travel around.

MAC pro longwear lipglass

An orange shade is definitley not on any makeup looks at the moment as the weather is so cold and such a warm summer shade is not appropriate. However I adored how this colour complimented my skintone so well and instantly made me look very awake and full of energy. My skintone naturally suits orange toned lipsticks and I was captivated by the thickness of this gloss and how pigmented it was. First impressions of this lipglass is great and i'm looking forward to the springtime where I can get more use out of this shade.

REVOLUTION ultra aqua brow tint

I have been sitting on the fence for the past couple months deciding whether I wanted to invest on the infamous anastasia dipbrow promade because the price was a little bit steep for my liking and I was unsure whether it would be for me or not. When i realised that revolution did a similar brow gel and in a tube form, i instantly placed an order with them and at such a small price, it cannot go wrong. I have used this product a couple of times and I have been loving it so far and gives a more precise and neat finish to my brows compared with just using my eyebrow pencil. The formulation was easy to apply and the pigmentation level was just right.

5 March 2013

- February 2013 Favourites -

February has passed by way too quickly in my opinion and now it's March and we are all trying to get into the mood for spring especially with a few sunny but cold days in England recently! The past month i have been working as a student nurse in the hospital therefore my make-up has been kind of minimalistic but these are a few things i have been using quite alot throughout the month of February which i will give a little detail of each one below:

001: Estee Lauder Daywear advanced multi-protection anti-oxidant lotion
The cold weather has dried my skin out quite a bit and i found that i was starting to get dry patches around my face. Having combination-oily skin, i opted for the 'lotion' formulation of this cream and i think i made the right decision because it is very lightweight and absorbs into my skin nicely. It also has a light cucumber scent which is really refreshing to use in my morning skincare routine.

002: ELF high definition powder
Out of all of the ELF products, this is the product which i have repurchased recently because i completely finished my first pot of this because i loved it so much. This is a finely milled translucent powder which i find does a great job at setting my foundation. I apply this with a large powder brush and it just gives my skin a nice flawless finish whilst making my foundation last longer which is a must for my skin-type because i tend to get oily during the day. Inexpensive but effective and you get alot of product, i recommend this product for all you girlies out there to try it if you haven't yet.

003: Laura Mercier foundation primer
I bought this during christmas and i can honestly say that i have been using it for every make-up application since. I only need a small pea sized amount for my whole face and i like how it is not a product packed with silicones, but rather a nice fresh lotion based product that can sink and absorb into the skin. It smells very pleasant too and i adore the simplistic and practical packaging. I do admit that this is quite expensive, but for the amount and the quality of the product, it is worth every penny in my opinion.

004: Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser - oil free (shade || Nude)
Another Laura Mercier product here. As i said before, my skin has been so dry and my make-up has to be kept minimal for my work therefore this tinted moisturiser has got to be my foundation of choice. This foundation gave me a nice light coverage which is perfect as i used my E.L.F HD powder to dust on top to give it a nice flawless finish and keep my oils a little bit more at bay. This tinted moisturiser applies like a dream and leaves a nice dewy healthy glow which actually doesn't make my skin too greasy which is very suitable for my combination oily skin. I recommend people with oily skin but too scared to try tinted moisturisers to try this.

005: Real Techniques buffing brush from the core collection
I fell in love with this the moment i used it for the first time. Having been a fan of the ELF buffing brush for a couple of years now, i find that this slightly rounded shape makes the application of liquid foundation alot more precise and it tends to shed less compared with the ELF one. Real technique brushes in general are really great quality for the price you pay and i am looking into purchasing more very soon~!

006: Chanel Nail polish 08 Pirate
I've never been a fan of Red nail polishes because having tried a very vibrant red before and it made me look like my fingernails were bleeding kind of put me off. However, my boyfriend recently picked out this colour while we were shopping so i gave it a go seeing that it swatched beautifully in the shop and brightened my skin-tone! I love Chanel nail polish formulation, it dries quickly and applies so smoothly. More Chanel nail polishes are on the cards since i have my eyes on alot of their shades.

007: Thierry Mugler eau de parfum - Angel (small sample size)
I recieved this miniature fragrance from a cute mini set i got during the Christmas period and i have been in love with this sweet and sophisticated scent! I usually like the more fresh and citrus scents but i think for the month of February, i delved into the more stronger and feminine scents and i am slowly gravitating towards more sweeter scents now. I quite like the perfumes from Thierry Mugler eventhough i did initially only buy it because of it's nice packaging

Well that's it for my favourites in February and i hope that i will discover more favourites in the month of March and start using up products from my stash of make-up that i seem to have neglected.

What are you favourites in the past month?

16 May 2012

~ My Current Skincare 2012 ~

So my skincare routine changes according to my skin's requirements and also because i always enjoy trying out new products, and returning eventually back to my holy grail products if they do not work well with my skin. It is recommended that you change your skincare products throughout the seasons, as it is quite obvious that during the cold winter months, you would need more moisturising products to compensate for the dry and dehydrated skin due to the cold weather as opposed to during the summer, where more emphasis would be placed on sun protection. So this post is to share the products that i am using and the routine that i adopt right now.
So for starters, i do own a Clarisonic Pro and even if it can be used for daily skincare routine, i choose to use it only twice a week, due to the fact that i feel that it is a little too abrasive for my sensitive skin and i like my skin to take a break from the harsh exfoliating from the vibrating brush. If you have normal skin, i am sure that the clarisonic may be used daily because not only does it make your skin feel so deeply cleansed and leave it soft to touch, i feel that it also makes products absorb into the skin a lot better or quicker than usual.

The cleanser that i am currently using at the moment is:
ORIGINS - A perfect world: Antioxidant cleanser with White Tea  (£17 for 150ml)
"This perfect foaming face wash is formulated with nature's antioxidant White Tea. In a pre-emptive sweep, dirt-grabbing minerals combined with the gentle, skin-compatible cleansing action reach deep to help detoxify and free skin of harmful impurities. Skin is perfectly clean, smoothed and refreshed"
I first tried this as a travel sized product i received complementary to my toner that i bought online from them. At first i was a bit skeptical because i always have a fear of face washes breaking me out or clogging up my pores. However, not only does this product smell amazing and fresh, it actually cleansed my face very well without leaving it all dry and stiff like most face washes does. The texture of this is kind of creamy like a lotion, but a little definitely goes a long way. I wet my face and slowly lather around a 5p sized product onto my face and it does foam a little but not too much that it's overwhelming. I would recommend this to people who have skin similar to mine, or is quite sensitive, because this face wash is very gentle, cleans without dehydrating and most importantly, leave your face feeling soft and supple ready for absorbing your serums and moisturisers. I use this face wash for both day and night.

The Toner that i use for daytime only is also from the Origins brand:
ORIGINS- Zero oil: Pore purifying toner with Saw Palmetto & Mint £16 for 150ml
"TONER BENEFITS:
• Pores appear tightened and refined
• Promotes a matte appearance
• Leaves skin comfortable and refreshed"
This is the second bottle that i repurchased because i loved it so much. I use it as part of my morning cleansing routine because i feel that it can be quite drying and mattifying which i don't think i really need throughout the night. This product has a strong mint scent and leaves my skin tingly and clean. I think that this product does play a part in reducing the oils produced by my face throughout the day and my make-up seems to stay put a little bit better. Not sure if it is placebo, but this product does what it claims and amazing to use. I think that only oily-combination skin should use this product, because it may be a little bit too drying for normal or dry skin. The solution is quite strong, but it didn't irritate my sensitive skin and it wasn't too harsh so it's tolerable. I am not sure if i will be purchasing another bottle of this, since i would like to try out other products, which may be a little less drying and gentler on the skin.

The moisturiser that i use is:
NIVEA visage daily essentials - oil free moisturising day cream SPF8 - 50ml for £6
"Moisturises and regulates shine for a fresh skin feeling, suitable for oily and combination skin"
I don't tend to spend too much on moisturising creams due to the fact that my skin already has enough moisture from my oily-ness and i find that many products just makes me even more shinier and i realised that it was better to skip the moisturiser step. However, some days my skin is a bit drier due to the windy and rainy weather so i may need a little help and i have found this moisturiser which is very light and perfect for that lightweight moisture that doesn't feel too heavy that it clogs up your pores! The price of this was quite affordable too and it is readily available at most drugstores. It gets absorbed in no time and has a light refreshing scent to it which is a pleasure to apply on the face. I recommend this to people who has oily skin like me and want to find a moisturiser which is not too heavy or rich.

The extra treats that i use as part of my skincare are:
1. ESTEE LAUDER idealist pore minimizing skin refinisher - 50ml for £52
"This fast-acting serum delivers our most dramatic skin resurfacing benefits-more efficiently than ever before. With Idealist, your skin looks and feels like your ideal skin: Virtually pore-less, unbelievable soft and smooth and incredibly clear and even toned."
I bought this product due to the hype and so much positive reviews there were on it. As an individual with oily skin for the past 10 years or so, i've always suffered from enlarged pores which i'm so unhappy about so when this was raved about, i was determined to try it. To be honest still, apart from it being a primer, i really haven't noticed anything different in the appearance of my pores. I kind of regret buying this product as it doesn't do anything greater than a regular silicone based primer and i sometimes feel that it is way too rich for my skin and wonder if it would 'clog up' my pores rather than minimizing them. I must say that it does refine the skin and make it look like it is in better condition, but thats all i can say about it. If you have the extra money to spend, by all means try it out since you do get an awful lot of product/primer for the price.

2. ESTEE LAUDER advance night repair - 50ml for £54
"Woman & Home: Best Beauty Icon - Turn Back the Clock 2011
InStyle Award Winner 2011, She Magazine 2011: Best Night Cream, Stylist Skincare Awards 2011 Winner, Evening Herald Beauty Awards 2011: Best Night Serum, Top Sante Glow Awards Winner 2011. 30 years of innovation. Inspired by groundbreaking DNA research.Use it every day for a significant reduction in the appearance of major signs of visible ageing. Skin looks smoother, younger, more radiant and healthy."
Another highly advertised product and won many awards etc etc. I do believe this product is worth its expensive price. It has absolutley changed the texture and feel to my skin. When i apply it at night, it is easily absorbed and doesn't leave that greasy feel like other serums. In the morning when i feel my skin, it feels like it's in so much better condition and so soft to touch as if its been rejuvenated. I am not even exaggerating, this product is amazing what it does to your skin. Not sure if it's a bit heavy for my skin type because sometimes i do tend to get a few pimples on my forehead, so i may have to limit my use on it. This also helps to prevent fine lines and wrinkles. I am 21 right now, so i think it is a great time to start preventing the signs of ageing! This is a luxurious product and definitely a massive treat for the skin.

Have you used any of these products? And what is your swear-by skincare product?
